friends only!

I thought I'd be fine with keeping most of my journal public, but I do like knowing who can read all of my inner thoughts. :P Anyway, if you know me personally, just make an LJ account and then add me as a friend, and then you're all set! You can read all my entries.

Add me, post a comment introducing yourself, and I'll return the favour! Once I've confirmed you as a friend, you can read my about me post to get to know me! :)

Merlin: Hug Me?
Okay, I feel a little better.

There's this thing about me that's rather unique. Whenever something happens to me that I get stuck on... I have to find a fitting song. And since I have like... over 10 GB of music on my computer, I can do that. I just have to find the right song whose lyrics completely fit the moment... listen to it about 5 times in a row... cry a bit... and then I'm all better. Yay. THIS EVENT'S ACCOMPANIMENT IS PROVIDED BY Unbeautiful by Lesley Roy. So fitting. Really. Perfect.

OMG. RANDOM SIDE NOTE. I just saw that Psych is actually on TV here too. Like... a season behind.. but still cool.

Anyway. Feeling better. Right. Today we had an AWESOME Intro to International Business lecture. It was so good. I was taking notes, paying attention, and actually learning. The lecturer was just really good and I feel like I can learn a lot from him. It reminded me and again reassured me of my study choice. Since the first two lectures just went completely over my head.. yeah. this was needed. And good. Yayyy business. I love it.

Some more highlights of the STAR weekend:
  • They gave us three condoms in the goodie bag on the way back to R'dam. Regardless of the fact that this would have been more useful at the beginning... This makes 4 condoms I've now gotten from my university. And a discount coupon for more condoms. And one is chocolate flavored. Um. Yeah.
  • ... Uh. Bacardi Cola. Good stuff.
  • ... ... Yeah, I really just wanted to mention the condoms thing.
... Yeah. Um. I dunno. I have to still read like 150 pages for Intro to Business... but I did all my math homework, assigned today, due on Friday. ...This is very odd. I need to accomplish more... but... OH. Since math was so easy I'm not going to the workshop on Friday. SO I HAVE FRIDAY OFF TOO. Yayy.

I really want a room in Kralingen. I need to contact Stadswonen. That's right. NOTE TO SELF.

Tomorrow's Organisational Behaviour lecturer is from Texas. Uhh... I can't escape it T_T

... That is all.
4th-Sep-2009 08:46 am - wtfhomework??
Psych: DO NOT WANT
Bah. Yesterday I had to do homework again. For the first time in FOREVER it seems. Math homework. And it killed me. Srsly, the last part just... didn't make any sense. So I didn't do the last two questions... but I don't know if anyone did. I think we're all very confused. Because during the lecture it all seemed so simple, and then they dump this crap on us that they never talked about and isn't explained well enough in the book.

Meh. I hate homework.

STAR weekendddddd. This means I won't be posting until like... Sunday night. Maybe. Yeah. Hopefully it will be fun, but I just got mother nature's little gift and that just really pisses me off. :( Not cool.

Hehe, I love not having classes till 11. Good thing that's every day except Monday. And Wednesday... since no class on Wednesday. So cool. *sigh* I need to pack now though.
2nd-Sep-2009 04:47 pm - 1st day of lectures: *headdesk*
Merlin: Nap Time
Today was our first official day of lectures. And oh my god. I just... Ugh. It was a completely wasted day.

We started with QMT: Mathematics and wow. Really. Linear functions. Like... Really? Seriously? In college? I mean... I did that in 7th grade. uhhh. But I did like that we immediately related it to economics with supply and demand.. but that was about it. He gave us one sample problem and I just did that right away while he was still explaining point-slope form. Like... *headdesk* The professor... well, we have two, but the one we had today just really kind of sucked. He has a strange accent. It's kind of hard to follow.

Then it was off to Intro to International Business and OH MY SWEET LORD. I cannot follow this professor worth crap. Everything he says just goes in one ear and out the other. Nothing sticks. I'm not the only one with this problem. But really, I have no clue what he was talking about. The entire time. Luckily, I think this is the only time he's lecturing us for this class, so I won't have that problem later... I think. And I think today was just a bullshit intro. Oh, cool point, he actually used the words bullshit and ass during the lecture. So yeah.

Then IT. Um. yeah. kill me now. I was soooo bored. I mean, another class about Microsoft Office? Urgh. I mean, we get to do an entry test next monday, and if we get between 17 and 20 (out of 20) on it then we are allowed to skip all the workshops and just take the final in november. But apparently they make it extremely difficult to pass. Only 4 people last year did. Out of 400. That's a 1% success rate. I'd be fine, but they actually do some macro programming at the end of the course... which I have never done. So I'm fucked. Just because there's one lesson I can't do. And I don't see how that will help you much in business anyway... but whatever.

--

Putting that aside, here's something awesome to know about! This weekend is STAR's (our study association) intro weekend... basically, we're all going to some hick place and hanging out in a barn partying and shit.

Well there's two theme parties.

And the themes are....

Fairytale (OMG I DID THAT ALREADY *HEADDESK**DIES*)

and

PornSTAR

...

*ded*

I have no idea... But we HAVE to come in costume. Okay, this is organized by the school. Associated with the school. And the theme is fucking PORNSTARS?!?

Anyway. For Fairytale I'm wearing a tiara and that means I'm a princess, regardless of whatever clothes I wear. For PornSTAR I still have to decide... high class call girl? or school girl? ;) HELP.
31st-Aug-2009 06:14 pm - INTRO DAY = SUCCESS
Merlin: Daaaamn gurl
This is great. We had our introduction day today... which was mandatory.. but we didn't learn anything so... I dunno, basically they just told us about the programme and what to expect and stuff. And then we took a boat tour and had an AMAZING buffet lunch. With 3 free beers. ♥

It turns out that we have 3 or 4 different groups that we split up into for workshops... and I'm not too crazed about mine. neither Andi nor Alex nor Ramon nor Derrick nor... basically anyone I know is in them But good thing, after the first trimester we get to choose our groups. So I'll just have to pay attention to that and get with them...

Oh, and they listed me as of Dutch nationality. Sweeeet.

Surprisingly there are 420 something students in the programme total. We're all together for the lectures and then split up into groups for workshops. There are 200-something Dutch students. 75 Germans. o_o Only 70 IB diplomas o______o I was really surprised about that one. And no Japanese :( I was really hoping to meet someone.... ah well.

Here is my schedule. I have to say.. save for mondays, it's pretty goddamn awesome.

Bachelors in International Business Administration Year 1 Trimester 1 Timetable

9:00 - 11:00
11:00 - 13:00
13:00 - 15:00
15:00 - 17:00
17:00 - 18:30
Mondays
QMT: Mathematics (Lectures) Introduction to International Business (Lectures) Skills 1: IT (Workshops) Mentor Group (every other week)
Tuesdays
Methodology (Lectures) Organisational Behaviour (Lectures)
Wednesdays
Thursdays
Introduction to International Business (Lectures) Organisational Behaviour (Workshops) Skills 1: IT (Workshops)
Fridays
QMT: Mathematics (Workshops)

That's right bitches. I fucking love Wednesdays. And Fridays for that matter. Only 2 hours of math, and apparently it's to go over homework or if you didn't understand what they explained in the lectures. Which... is never really a problem for me. So most likely I'll have Fridays off too. Mathematics workshops are the only thing where attendance isn't mandatory though. Eh.

But yeah, that's basically it. I really like this. Every hour of study though is 45 minutes work and then a 15 minute break. Not bad.

This will keep me going until November 6th. Then it's a week of studying, then 2 weeks of exams. But really, the exams are looking more like party weeks, lmao.
25th-Aug-2009 05:53 pm - HUH?
Merlin: *protests*
WTF.

I just watched Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and left it running... THERE'S A SCENE AFTER THE CREDITS. WTF. WTF. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT AT ALL.

o_______o

asdfjkl; Movie people really need to stop adding those scenes in at the end. I ALWAYS MISS THEM OR SOMETHING. Unless someone TELLS me about it then I never see it. gah.

----

Tonight the plan is... more drinking. Finding another bar somewhere. *shrug* it never gets old here. We never stop partying. I'm in kind of a "blah" mood right now though... So I don't know if I want to go. I mean, I want to, but... eh... *sigh*
21st-Aug-2009 01:07 pm - BEST BIRTHDAY FREAKING EVER
Merlin: Made of Awesome
Aw man. My birthday was completely FUCKING amazing. And I want to thank EVERYONE that was involved in making it happen. :)

We were at the fraternity RSG when midnight came around... and MAN I LOVE IPC. They sang to me. Then Alex and Tjeerd threw me in the air. And then I had to take 4 shots. After already having chugged three beers, lmao. ONE WAS SO DISGUSTING. But I love Bacardi, really.

Anyway. ...It was just so amazing. Yeah, I was probably a little drunk after the shots. Walking in a straight line? Nooooo. Not happening.

We quickly left RSG and tried to go to RSC, where they were supposed to be having a foam party... but the foam part was canceled. WTF. So we left there.

And then we went to Laurentius. And danced and danced and danced. Met up with my husband again :P and yeah. No, it srsly was the coolest thing. I'm just dancing and stuff and then suddenly feel arms around me as he starts like grinding into me and shit... then whispers in my ear, "Happy Birthday". lol. 'twas the shit. :D

But in all honesty, of all the Eurekaweek nights, the parties sucked the hardest yesterday/this morning. We didn't actually see that many people... so I guess they just copped out and went home. Too exhausted from too much wild living, as Mr. Dunnagan would put it.

So at like... 2:30/3-ish... we all just decided to leave. Which meant that I was SCREWED 'cause I couldn't get home at that point. But I ended up staying at Andy's. and when we got to his place, we weren't even tired, lmao. His room has the most amazing view though. And so we just sat by the river and talked for a while... He's a pretty cool guy, I guess ;)

Then went back inside, because it was getting really cold... and watched a movie. Scary Movie 2. Never saw any of those, so yeah. But anyway. I'm pretty sure I may have fallen asleep at some point during it, lmao, but yeah. 'twas cool.

Finally, at around 6, we went to sleep. And then I woke up at 12 pm. And headed home.

Such an epic day. And only half of it is gone, lol. But I doubt anything's happening the rest of the day. Everyone's exhausted and shit, myself included. Plus I'm finally at home now, and we barely have any food. asedfjkl; I don't want to go grocery shoppingggg.

I'm getting sick as well. Probably the worst part of my birthday. Probably just a cold, but you know. It probably has to do with being dripping wet with sweat and then going outside into the cold morning air... or the whole sharing drinks thing. Because ... yeah. In IPC, you buy a beer while we're on the dance floor? We pass it around to everyone. lol.

I LOVE IPC. THANKS FOR THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVERRRR. EUROPE PARTIES FTW. SCREW AMERICA.
20th-Aug-2009 11:20 am - EUREKAWEEK 2009
Merlin: Made of Awesome
I'm on a diet. The walking+beer+dancing diet. It goes in that order. I'm pretty sure it's doing wonders for me.

EUREKAWEEK 2009. A--FREAKING--MAZING. Seriously, I'm having the time of my life. I don't remember ever having so much fun. I'm going to try and run through some parts of it... but nothing will do it justice. I came in with no expectations, and am just completely blown away.

The activities. Some are kind of boring... but yeah. I've gotten to see so much of the city... it's just fucking awesome. I looooove this city. Besides exploring, we also had a cabaret night, with comedians... and now I have yet another song written about me, lol. That makes it what, 5? I don't know. I've somehow become the target of all the jokes and teasing, in our "lectures" and just in our IPC group. We also, however, had Night of the Songs. Something so INCREDIBLY Dutch. Basically, we all hang around in a ...almost a club, type thing... and sing songs. Together. And everyone knows the songs... it's so Dutch. And the best part is when everyone starts drinking and it just becomes even more hilarious.

IPC you might wonder about. But the first rule of IPC is we don't talk about IPC. ;) Nah nah, it's hilarious. Back in March or something we started a facebook group for the International Business students, so we could get to know each other and shit, and then last Saturday we met for drinks, you know? Well we figured we should start our own fraternity, since the fraternities and sororities here tend to not be so welcoming to international students.

In any case, IPC means my friends. Such an awesome group of people, really. Probably because we're all social butterflies, lmao. But yeah, I'm having such a great time with all of them. Every night we meet up to go to the frat parties, it's just insanely awesome. And somehow, in like... 4 days? I've managed to get a husband (Andy), bitch (Ramon), and secret lover (Tjeerd). LMAO. These things are just so hilarious. But seriously, the guys are so awesome. And I now also realize, I haven't really been making any female friends. xD whoooops.

But yeah, the frat parties. I honestly didn't know what to expect of the fraternities and sororities here. I thought they wouldn't be like the ones in America. Um. They are. Completely. The same. lmao. But! SURPRISINGLY.... I love them. It's freaking awesome. (I think I keep using the same phrases lol) First of all, freaking beer... it's fucking awesome. Yesterday, happy hour at RSG = two beers for 80 cents. Insaaaane. Tjeerd wanted to get me drunk, lmao. Surprisingly, I wasn't. But I was still force-fed like 6 beers in a half hour or something. I thought I'd have a weak tolerance, lol. But it did make everything more fun. (while not drunk, I sure did appreciate having Andy/Tjeerd holding my waist while walking down the street from frat to frat, lmao)

The dancing follows the alcohol... and oh my god it's so cool. I'm loving the house music right now. But I'm losing my hearing, I swear. It's so awesome though. We're all basically dripping in sweat. Everyone's completely soaked. But no one cares. The dancing continues. On and on, forever. I'm so addicted to it now. I have strange urges to break out dancing on the metro. xD

The only bad thing about this is, the parties continue until like 4 am... and while I leave at like 2... that still means that the metro isn't running. So I've been crashing at Tjeerd's the last two nights. I've barely been home at all. The first day, I decided to walk home. It was 4 kilometers. It took 1 hour. I wanted to leave early yesterday too, and go home for a change, but... Tjeerd wanted to get me drunk. pfft. He failed. He actually just wanted me there because I had money for the beer and he was broke. pfffffft.

But seriously. Amazingly fun. I really love my new friends. :D Of course, college life won't always be like this.. lmao. just this week. Then, you know, no more 40 cent beer.

TONIGHT. Well, today, actually, is the last day of Eurekaweek. Which means, festival and barbecue in the afternoon... End party at a club in the evening... and more frat parties at night. SO. TONIGHT. The plan is to party till dawn. Because then the metros will be running again.

...

But no. Seriously.

PARTY ALL FUCKING NIGHT LONG BECAUSE IT'S MY GODDAMN BIRTHDAY!

(Friday. But yeah, during the partying it will become my birthday. I'm so happy with that. It's so cool. It's like.. the party's for me. xDDD naahhh, I'm kidding. Although I have gotten the nickname Queen Debby already. lmao. Our group already had two birthdays this week... it's so awesome.)
16th-Aug-2009 11:15 pm - asdfjkl; titles
Merlin: Daaaamn gurl
Okay, so Bavaria City Racing was definitely sooo lame. We couldn't see anything... and the people in the crowd were really rude, refusing to move and stuff... And then when the race cars did come through the street... well it wasn't a race. It was like a, "let's wave to the people as if they know who we are while we pass by in cool looking cars" and "yay burning rubber" contest. I dunno. just... disappointing.

But meeting up with the group was fun again. I can tell that at least those people, from our Facebook group, are going to be quite fun to hang out with. Alex and Tjeerd get special mention.. but they tease me. A lot. lol. I srsly had so much fun though.

At one point we just sat down in the middle of the street. Because the streets were roped off. So a usually busy street? yeah, sitting down. lol. We just walked around the city for hours. But we got to know each other better, so that's cool.

I was so tired when we got back though. And I just felt kind of listless... I didn't really have anything to do.. But laundry. lol.

OH YEAH. I really have to get used to the fact that exchanging three cheek-kisses with a handsome guy... doesn't actually mean anything. xD I mean, I'm used to it too, being Dutch and everything... but it's still... exciting.

Tomorrow starts Eurekaweek, our week to tour Rotterdam and make more contacts with fellow EUR-ers. And every night, partying, starting at 22:00. So I don't know if I'll be posting here much. But I'll try to take pictures.
